Your information and part knowledge is really helpful to me in my gastank swap. It has been moving forward for a while and now it`s time for some R&R. Thanks and Merry Christmas and a Happy new year!
Thanks but i got restless after a while . I recived from the post today a used fuel gauge #75049-88B and also a sender unit #75062-90. They are in good shape and they work fine. Lookes like a new fuel gauge #75049-01A and also a new sender unit 75062-01 was used from the 2001 models and forward. I think maybe they are improved in quality. The Kuryakyn LED fuel gauge looks nice....and also their matching fuel cap.
I'm glad this thread is still alive. It's very helpful and super important in deciding whether to swap my Low Rider stuff for a bigger Wide Glide tank. Fortunately I now know that the Low Rider tank is the worlds most valuable gas tank Harley has ever made! Glad I kept it. Too bad my speedo went kaput!

Ha, I just got the same. I got a used sending unit 75062-90 but found a brand new gauge 75049-88B for $65 on ebay. Also ordered up fuel tank trim panel, and that completes the parts I need for the tank conversion! I'll be working on this starting late Jan, early Feb.

Sounds great! I am going to order Harleys genuine chrome fuel tank trim panel #61655-91 and the chrome instrument housing #67189-95. I hope these parts will fit my modified 2003 FXDWG gas tank. I have removed the mounting tab and made a new FXDL type mounting tab. What I still need to find is the bracket that holds the meters to the housing. The last part....and then I have everything needed. The tank will be painted vivid black (org) and I also what the original anniversary strip on it.
Excuse me if this is a dumb question, but I have no idea how to wire up the fuel sending unit and gauge. Does the gauge get power from the main harness somehow? Where does the power line run from, inside the tank? Will my FXDX harness wire up correctly to everything on the FXDL tank/dash? I realize I may have to modify some wire lengths, just want to make sure it will all work though, like swapping to the smaller FXDL idiot light console.

Hi! Her is a link http://www.hdtalking.com/electrical_...nder_test.html were you can check how the fuel gauge and sending unit is connected and also some troubleshooting. The fuel gauge and sending unit gets 12 volts and ground through a tubing that runs from the bottom left side of the gas tank up to the fuel gauge / sending unit. Good luck / Jonas
Not really sure what the major difference is in the fuel sending units for the 2000 parts list and the 2001 and newer, but the part numbers are different. I assume if you match up the fuel gauge from the same year(s) all should work fine since the tank is the same from 96-03. Wonder if the wiring is different.
Check out these images for the differences....You could be right on the fitment although I'm not sure...

When I did mine I dim't have to adjust any wire lengths. Take off the connector ends and feed the wire throught the hole on the left and then put the end back on then itwas just plug and play. I bought the fuel guage used from pinwheel cycle. They are on ebay, quick shipping just take a good look at the pix before you buy. They don't do returns.

Yeah, I got my fuel sending unit from them, it looks ok but the up and down float part seems a little stiff, it was only $20 though. If it doesn't work I'll have to get a new one
