Default Jagg Offset Oil Filter Adapter 4702

2015 FLHTK
Has anyone installed this only for simpler and cleaner oil filter changes? I'm wondering how the bypass will work if I just plug that opening instead of installing the actuator. I planned on also plugging the two in/out with 1/4" plugs.

From the website description:
"Once the bike reaches operating temperature, the viscosity regulated flow (VRF) valve will automatically close the by-pass hole, sending hot, filtered oil to the oil cooler, and delivering cool, clean oil to the engine."

I live near Tampa and run the Jagg non thermostat version on my twin cam ,65k miles with no issues whatsoever.

Not sure how much easier and cleaner it will be utilizing the jagg adaptor, as it only brings the oil filter a little more higher than stock. It seems you're not running an oil cooler, so plugging the adaptor and removing the valve would be fine and it should operate as stock. Another option would be an oil filter relocation kit, which would probably serve you better for the purpose you have stated.

Thanks, I got about the same advice from Jagg today, that it probably won't be any less mess.
Guess I'll just cram extra towels under the filter, lol. I do punch holes and let it drain, but I keep my bike on a lift, even when doing service. I ride it up on there, let it cool a little bit, then lift the bike up to work on. So it's upright vs leaning over on the jiffy stand and harder for the oil to drain out as good. It's just got too difficult to work on it ground level.

About a filter relocation, I did consider it, but I'm just not comfortable with the oil running through hoses.

Thank you, i appreciate the advice, saved me from wasting $150 on something that wasn't gonna accomplish what I wanted. Guess I'll have to find a different project to do, but I'm running out of stuff, lol. My done list is lengthy; my to do list so far is only clutch and brake fluid, which I use the ITM HD2 ABS flush.

I have the DK Custom oil relocation kit that I installed into my 2009 Ultra. it works fine.
Only takes 5 minutes to change the oil and no mess.

I've been looking at that relocation kit, a lot, for a few years now. I'm just not comfortable with my oil going through hoses. I do trust DK Customs tho, and am really happy with the breather modification from them.

I'll keep considering it, maybe one more messy oil change will be all it takes, lol. Maybe some stainless wire hoses would be the convincing factor.

I totally understand that feeling...

When I installed a 124" S&S crate engine in my Twin Cam bagger, I didn't like the idea of needing to use the S&S hose kit to maintain the engine warranty. S&S has to use external hoses for the engine oil, versus using the internal passages from engine case to transmission case to oil pan, to avoid a patent violation with HD.

Then it hit me... my first two Harleys (both shovel heads) had all external oil lines. My three current Twin Cam Softails have numerous oil lines. I've never had an oil hose issue on all those bikes through all the collective miles I have put on them.

I've run the crate engine, with the hose kit, for 24K miles. I haven't had an issue with an external oil line (hose) in that application either.

I would say if you just take your time, run the hoses well, where there are no kinks, good clamps, and they are protected (not hanging below the frame rails), you won't have any issues.

If you should develop a minor leak from an oil fitting, you can always go back to OEM.

Good luck with your decision...

Default Can anyone explain this?

What does one gain by holding the oil from going through the cooler until it reaches a set temperature?

As a side note I expect to install the filter relocating kit that goes on frame down tube. No matter what I try oil gets on bike.

There are some technics to help reduce the mess, or even prevent it in the first place.
Simply by stuffing shop towels under the oil port, between the regulator and the engine, will prevent 90% of the mess.
I used a long #1 Philips screw driver, that I sharpened the tip on. Next I poked 2 holes in the filter, on outward part of the filter, one above the other. Imagine that you are looking at the filter that faces to the left of the bike with 2 holes in it, one at the top edge and the second on the bottom edge. Next, I'd used my fluid evacuator with a rubber tip to slurp out the oil in the filter from the bottom hole. The top hole is to allow air in as the oils is evacuated from the bottom hole.
Others would use the Harley oil trough, it never worked well for me. Some use a soda bottle with the Botton cut out.
The best way that I found was the filter relocation mod.
Good luck.

I have the DK Custom remote mount on my 2019 Harley FLHTP and like it. No mess oil change. I use the fuel injection hose clamps and they stay tight. New quality oil lines will outlast the motorcycle. Or change them out at 5 years if desired.

To add controversy, I also run the permanent oil filter. Just need to find a metal coffee can for the shop again.
