Soon after buying my bike I noticed the dist cover was cracked. I should have gotten it in for warranty, but I didnt. I always knew I was going g to upgrade my bars and replace the upper cable anyway.
Well, I purchased my KST bars and cable, and unfortunately, it doesnt come with a new dust cover - figures.
Does anyone know where I can get a new dust cover? Something upgraded that wont crack in the first five miles would be nice!
Well, I could not find a replacement, I even looked for upgrades, but most of those expect you to re use the dust cover. I am sure there is something, but nothing I could find in a quick search.
So, I ordered some ridged pvc from Harrington in 16mm ID x 20 mm OD. Based on my measurements with everything still on the bike, I think this will work. Maybe a tad thicker. Cheaper than anything Harley would have sold me anyway.
when I have time to do the KMT bar install, I will let you know how it worked out.
I hate that thing. On mine, the rubber top cap separates from the tube. I need to superglue it at some point. I also broke the stupid bracket end when I was doing my Mueller power clutch. But actually, I kind of like it like that because now, I have this little dip to hold the cable without the whole clip holding it, so I can easily adjust my clutch cable when needed.
This clutch cable fixes all that nonsense and moves the adjustment to where it belongs: at the lever end of the cable. I've used this on two of my bikes now with no issues.
jake24lt That Fat Bagger product replaces the yellow adjuster under the dust cover, you are still expected to use the dust cover with this install. It actually rests on that mushroomed bottom ledge.
Pappy35 Not sure it gets rid of the nonsense, but it does appear to come with the dust cover! And I already purchased a new upper clutch cable from KST.
2goldens Yes, I think you could use the old school rubber dust cover, those were always a pain the ***, but didn't crack after the first ride.
mjwebb Yes, as an option 2, I am planning to CA glue the original cover back together and then use a length of 1" shrink wrap over it. That will give it strength and it would look OEM. wrapping it in electrical tape would annoy the hell out of me.
