New Harley Owner
So been a biker since I was 14. And finally got me an American torque twin. I have newb questions. First any recommendations on how to change the steering stem lock without a key?
Second carb issue. My bike sat for fifteen years. I cleaned tank thoroughly fixed petcock and cleaned carb. Which actually looked the most pristine I’ve ever seen for a carb that sat. Maybe previous dude ran the bowl dry before it got parked cause it looked new.
Bike starts good on choke but when I take off from a stop it pops and hesitates a little bit. Almost feels like it could die. It happens more often after choke is off and bike is fully warmed.
I didn’t realize HD recommends premium gasoline so I did use regular octane at first. But since switching to premium there is no change.
Ordered a Chinese $8.00 carb kit for an accelerator pump diaphragm mine did have a few pinholes in it. Installed new accelerator pump and a K&N stock type air filter. No change.
Runs good after the full stop take off. Doesn’t miss a beat on upshifts or hard acceleration. But does also occasionally pop on a long decel. It did die once when it was the hottest I’ve ridden it… in heavy traffic crawling.
I’m going to change out the C/V rubber next. And blow out all jets again.
Final issue … when going over bumps I have a not nice sounding clunk from gas tank area. Checked rubbers and bolts didn’t find anything. Thinking previous owner lost some rubber or foam block somewhere.
