Default Rear signal conversion

1998 Road King

I’ve been wanting to upgrade the rear signals to them being on as running lights like the front and brake with the brake light.

The plug and play kits IMO are beyond crazy priced.

So tonight almost randomly I realize I can do it myself,
cleanly, easily with some of my spare parts and some easy wiring and keep it clean.

Depin few connectors to properly splice and shrink.

Cannibalize a set of front signals for the 1157 base. Retrofit the 1157 base in rear signals the wire sleeves are big enough for another wire. Route them via factory means make a couple diode junctions to prevent signals blinking the brake light.

I could easily even make a small box with the diodes and Pot them so no moisture would ever get them.

I honestly probably have everything.

i just don’t like how the plug and play ones are technically under bolting volting the 1156 to act as running light then full power for brake and turn.

i could see $30 tops but $100? Or am i crazy to use what i have. Needs to look factory. Not an afterthought.

Or does someone know of ones that are still plug and play that are not as $$$.

oh and yes. I have red lenses on the rear already.

Buy the diode box with the plugs on it. Your 1998 left the manufacturer built pretty reliable. Keep it that way.

If you're replacing the socket and running the third wire, just tap them into the wires that are already there and add 2 relays.
