Default Tight Clutch 90 Sportster

Hi All, Replaced clutch cable and after adjustment behind derby cover and on the cable to pick up the slack the clutch is pretty tight when squeezing almost feeling it isnt pulling anymore. I backed out a bit on clutch adj bolt( behind derby cover) but didnt seem to help much. Play seems ok at clutch lever and its shifting fine. Just hard to pull. Thanks

Start with why the cable was replaced to begin with? Was it originally tight? If not, my guess is, it's either your cable routing or **** cable.

I mistakenly trashed the old cable broke the seal at primary cover end when replacing primary gasket. New Milwaukee Twins cable, same length as old cable, routing straight up from cover pretty much. I have it zip tied to the speedometer cable. Old cable was fine. .

Have you lubed the new cable? Is the cable end connected to the ramp and ball assembly correctly? I know you have to pull the primary cover to check it, but hopefully lubing the cable helps.

I didnt lube the cable but...after installing everything I misplaced one the clutch pin bushings (where the cable attaches up on handle bar)so I layed the cable on the floor and the next day there was primary oil all over the garage floor...I believe the oil seeped up the cable and leaked out. Maybe I should try readjusting the clutch from under the derby cover. I may have snugged the bolt too much before backing off 1/4 turn.
