Anybody running the FXWG frontend or any with the 24" tubes , here is a serious front suspension upgrade tip.
The progressive monotube cartridge kit #31-2503 for the FXDWG 2000 to 2005 and FXST & FLST 2000 to 2015.
Is a direct drop in on the old FXWG style 41mm front ends with 24" tubes. Don't even have pull the legs or disturb the seals. Drain the legs, pull the tube nut and dump the spring & spacers and the damper assembly, if the little aluminum foot stays in no problem but keep it if it does come out, use the old one on the new cartridge end, interchangeable. Seal it up, 5 oz 10wt oil and no cussing trying to put fork cap back on. I feel the difference just compressing it on the floor.
Poking around Marketplace, guy had a set for $60, I'll gamble and it paid off this round.
It's a beautiful thing. Been running those a couple years now in my 97.
Long story became friends with a guy I wouldn't sell the extra shovel I have to. Real nice, serious rider from Indian high end dual sport bikes. Wanted his birth harley, 79 shovel and zero idea what he'd stepped into.
Offered to help off we are. The bike he got was bad, think the club over in Nevada ran it ragged or every swapped on it. Suspension and handling has him losing hair, how this adventure happened always on the hunt. Doing a total makeover on that bike. Had the urge to build another for a while, now I'm doing it on somebody else's dime.
