Default Motion Pro HD Fork Spring Compressor Kit

Anyone know/use this kit? I've read the pdf. for it and looked at the illustrations on that pdf. but can't see how it could work on my FXDL forks....duh. (Description does say it works on 'most' HD 39mm fork applications.....)

Seems like a waste of money, if you put your fork in the position shown in the instructions with an extension between your ratchet and the socket (proper one) and apply some force with one hand, you can then use your other to turn the socket by hand until the threads start, it works fine - once you get the threads started then you can let the ratchet do the work.

hmmm....maybe that is what the steering-wheel lock is for?!

Anyway, your advice sounds good to me. You've done it that way?
I messed with this once before dealing with the fork-oil, and I swore-off after that. That is the main reason I've been looking into something to make it easier when I get around to installing my Intimators. I can see me wanting to mess with different spacer sizes and maybe levels of oil.

Yes I did, and I also installed the Ricors. Use the bottom triple clamp as your vise and things will be much easier than trying to work with the fork/spring pressure on the floor. I had my top clamp off at the time since I was installing the Fat Bob trees and greasing the head bearings but you can just swing it to one side so its out of the way. I think I used a long (18") extension but whatever you have on hand will work - just set the tube in there so its at a comfortable level to where you can lean into it and hold the cap in place while you use your free hand to spin the cap until it starts, then you can tighten it down.

It's best to add fork oil, work out the air, install your ricor using the spring, remove the spring and set the oil level - put the fork in the lower clamp, add the spring and put the cap on, remove the tube and repeat for the other side and reassemble everything. Also, I cut a half inch from the stock preload spacer and set the oil level at the factory level with the recommended Amsoil fluid.

Sounds like a plan! The oil-capacity is 10.6oz. Pour all or some of those 10.6oz? Bleed, and bring oil-level to the 6.7" height w/fork fully compressed. SM sez to get the 6.7" measurement without the spring in the tube.

I just filled up the tube, work the air out, add your ricor, compress the fork, set your oil level tool to the correct height (rather than pouring in a specified mount) and suck out the excess until the level is right.

Got around to finally installing the Intiminators this afternoon. Used the Motion Pro tool. That piece is well worth the cost. Dealing with the cap is easy off & easy on, so sweat. The oil I changed only last Summer, already is dark and stinks! Not sure if that is normal or not tho. I haven't been motocrossin' with the bike, so it seems strange to have that much degradation. The forks on this bike have no spacers. The threads I was reading kept going on about having to cut the spacers. No worries about that little chore. I'll finish up tomorrow morning and then see how the front suspension works.
