Default Chain noise?

Just wondering. MY chain area just seems kind of louder than normal. Is this normal? Seems the only sound I really want to hear is the pipes and the engine just seems like you can hear the chain more than normal. I took it back to the dealer to have him check it out. He says all sounds okay. He said the noise IS coming from the chain area but you can't adjust it. Is this normall? Maybe it is. I haven't ridden a bike for 10 years when I git it.

Get new pipes then you'll hear the motor. The primary chain is self adjusting on the '07 models. May check your primary fluid, I read a post recently where a guy gota brand new bike that had no primary fluid in it.

When you say primary fluid what do you mean? Where is that? Dumb question or what?

It's the big thing off the left side of the bike that runs from the transmission (rear)to the crank shaft of the motor (front).

Harley's are noisy. Always have been. Still are. You can use the old trick of taking a long screw driver and place the blade lightly on an engine area and put the handle to your ear. This can help you isolate where exactly the noise is coming from. But I bet you'll conclude that the majority of motor noise still comes from the pistons sliding up and down.

Also, if you're new to this bike, I bet at first, your ears marveled at the wonderful rumble of the pipes. Once you get over the fact that you do own a frick'n Harley, you'll start to hear the other noises it makes.

The primary case has a bath of oil in it to keep the primary chain and clutch lubed. There's about 26 oz of motor oil in there. This oil has no were to go, unless it leaks out and will not burn up. If you're concerned there is not enough oil in there, then you'll need to take the large round derby cover off per the manual instructions (buy a manual) to check the quality and level of the oil.

But, louder pipes will help.

Wait 'til you put a windshield on. You'll hear all kinds of crazy noises you've never heard. When I rode mine for the first time I was amazed at all the noises I heard. Mostly, valve train noise. It sounds like your sitting on a sewing machine. I have long shots with no baffles and I can still hear every little noise coming from the motor & drive train. You'll get used to it.

You'll like it alot more with the stage 1. Are you going to do a Power Commander, SE Race Tuner or just the Stage 1 download? I would also suggest the Ness Big Sucker over the SE air filter. One of my buddies has an '03 Heritage completely stock, the running joke. Is that thing running?

Zoomie I don't know. I don't know the difference. Any advice? I just have the SE slip ons right now. Not the most power in the world but the sound is good. What do you reccommend? I was leaning towards a $1500 paint job instead.

It could be the balance shafts drive chain as well you are hearing. My '01 standard is louder then my '03 Heritage but it just seems to be the nature of the beast.....
