Where can someone learn about paint jobs on this Forum, both Custom Paint and Factory Paint? I have a serious rub mark on my rear fender from where I had a Corbin Passenger Pillion. It is ugly... Well it gives me an excuse to either get a Custom Paint Job or New Factory Painted Tins from HD. Iwould like a durable finish. Any help here? Thanks
Harley paint has a good clearcoat on it, that mark may buff out. Just don't let any jack-leg with a buffer do it, or you may really need a paint job.
There are a few good painters on this site to choose from. What to look for;
1. you want a painter that paints bikes (bikes are different than cars and require different jigs and processes)
2. you want a painter with references, and pics or samples of their work.
3. you want one that uses high quality materials (this is where the durability comes from)
4. if you are getting a custom job, it helps if your painter rides. Then you are sure he knows the front of the fender from the rear. (nothing worse than backwards flames). I've seen this happen more than once.
Ya, if it didn't rub thru the clear coat you can try some mild rubbing compound and a variable speed buffer and try and try and buff it out.... if that won't get it all you can also try wetsanding it lightly and then rubbing it out. that's if it didn't rub thru the clear coat.
If you decide to go the Custom Paint route, I highly recommend Hot Rod Grafixxx. You can check out some of his work at hotrodgrafixxx.com. He painted my bike and I am very impressed with the results. His pricing seems to be quite low compared to what other painters are charging for work that in my opinion is not as good.
Thanks for the input... The mark is through the clearcoat. It really sU(ks!!! Anyway, I need to learn as much as I can about painting and what processes are out there. Forexample; powdercoating, graphics or airbrushing, clearcoating and baking.

Rodney at Hot Rod Grafixxx painting my bike and MyRide's Fat Boy at the same time. You can see his Fat Boy in his Gallery and on the Hot Rod Grafixxx website. I believe he did both bikes for $4,500. That includes him taking the tins off both bikes and putting them back together. We just rode them in and dropped them off. About 4 weeks later, we picked them up. I remember Rodney saying that MyRide's bike would be more expensive because it had more detail to it. I would say my paint job was about $2,000.

I just talked to the boys and I want their 'barrys hot soft tail' paint job. 2800.00 if the tins are in nice shape. I ship them and they will ship them back looking cool. Going to look for the boxes this afternoon. Thanks Live2ride.
