I'm trying to find a black right hand toolbox and mounting plate for my 08 crossbones but have concluded that such a product is a very hard find. Searches have shown that even sellers don't have one for the Xbones because they assume you have the stock exhaust which will get in the way. Knowing that my cycle shack pipes are lower and there is clearance, my best bet is to get the black box separately and try to order the correct plate (hopefully in black, if not, will pc them in black). Has anyone ordered the correct plate, I know that from 08 and on the spacing for the two bolts on the frame rail got wider and most of the plates on the market are for previous years. ? thx in advance.
Thank you for your help. I found a right side black hd toolbox on the bay so I bought it, will save on painting/powdercoating hassles i'm thinking. Now i'm in search of the mounting plate, it can be chrome if that's all there is. An hour of searching turns up nothing, especially for 08' and above softails. The only thing I found was the HD complete kit #64227-08. I don't know if HD will just sell me the plate, i'll have to inquire. I've read about your's and everyone's search for the 08+ black right hand toolbox, its like nearly impossible - you have to piece it together/paint/pc it etc...the market should step up lol.

You probably would have done better to get the Harley chrome one and get it powder coated black rather than finding black after market box and then trying to find a mount to match. Unfortunately, Harley will not sell the mounting bracket separately so if you were going to try and go that route you'd have to buy the whole kit with tool box anyway. You're best bet now is try and find a used chrome HD bracket or find and aftermarket one and adapt it to fit.
I myself went with the Harley complete chrome kit. It's pretty easy to take apart for paint or powder coating. All together it was less than $50 bucks to get it all powder coated black. Given that I got the kit from a discount internet seller the cost over retail wasn't very much at all and worth getting the look that I wanted and being spared the hassle of finding something that works.
Hmmm...that was one of my plans but I got carried away and bought the black box, so I guess its too late for me. Unless I get the whole chrome kit and sell the chrome box and keep the plate. I was thinking maybe I can fab some thick aluminum plate for the box, but I wouldn't be able to make the bends. Maybe it might work and put the box closer to the bike...I dunno. The best I can do is wait for the box to arrive and then think of either making the plate, finding the right plate, or getting a whole kit and selling the chrome box. damn what did I get myself into lol. thanks guys for the responses.
