Problems at 1,000 miles
So I bought a brand new 2014 Breakout in November and was riding down the highway a few weeks ago when I get an extremely loud metal on metal noise coming from the engine. Long story short, after having it in to the dealer, the service manager tells me they can't reproduce the sound and maybe the service will correct the issue. They do the service and told me the oil appeared to have had moisture in it due to the color when they changed it. I finally asked if they would have another tech check it out. This tech actually listened to what I told him it was doing and finally was able to reproduce the sound after getting the bike hot and putting in on the dyno under load. So I go by the shop today and they have the motor torn apart and are waiting on new pistons, sleeves and oil pump to arrive. Apparently there was a lack of lubrication in the rear cylinder and they decided to crack it to see what was going on. They showed me the piston and it has gouges all the way up past the rings. The sleeve in the cylinder is also marked up bad. I had just hit 1000 miles on this bike. Thankfully it was under warranty. Is this a common problem with the new 103's? I'm not very happy after dropping 20 grand on a new bike only to have the motor rebuilt after the break in period. I had pipes, air cleaner, and tuner all put on and tuned at the Harley shop prior to even taking the bike home after buying it. I took it easy during the break in period too. I'm a die hard HD fan but this is a little stupid. I put 50,000 miles on my last bike, a 04 FLHTI, with no issues, and now this one has major issues right off the bat.
Not sure if was the 103 but there has been a couple total engine replacements on here in just the last few months..Oil related issues that did what you describe. Last one was doing what they are doing to yours before all kinds of junk was through out motor and they replaced the whole engine. They had even got all the parts in house. Almost like the Harley rep was reading all the trashing going on here and decided to man up is what it sounded like to me. At 1K, I personally would be making a lot of calls. I know personally Harley's can chew up a lot and not really hurt anything but one this new total due to the mother ship deserves a new engine and I am not talking about a rebuilt one.

Years ago I bought a Kawasaki Ninja brand new. After about 200 miles it starting blowing heavy smoke. The circlip came out of the connecting rod and lodged against the piston and scored the hell out of the cylinder. Needless to say I was pissed and demanded a new engine to no avail. They tore it apart and took forever to fix it but they did and it ran perfectly until my room mate crashed it.
It sucks and I would be bummed and demand a new motor but if not they will get it fixed hopefully soon.

Call H-D Customer Service and have them open a ticket on your complaint.
Then make them follow through.
They bought a bike back from me at full MSRP after a dealer fubar'd a simple repair job, rendering it a lemon.
The squeaky wheel gets the oil.
