Default Lowering a softail

I am sure there are threads but could not find one asking this

Just bought an 04 Deuce. Looking to lower it two inches in the rear and maybe 1.5 in the front

What are the opinions on the best method and best products for the method you chose, to drop the front and the rear

Thanks

The Progressive drop in kit is probably best bet for the front. For the back you can do air ride or bolts just depends on how much you want to spend. Blots are super cheap compared to air ride.

Good response.

Front- progressive drop-ins
Rear- Progressive 422s or Shotgun shocks.

With bolts you'll probably have to set the stock suspension to it's stiffest to avoid bottoming out and then it gets rough.

My Deuce in my sig has a shotgun air ride shock slammed and a 2" lowering spring kit up front.

silly me. I was searching using the forums search feature. Every possible thread came up and 99% were not about lowering

Works well when you leave the forum and google the forum, learn something new everyday

thanks

Progressive drop in kit for the front, and lowering bolts for the rear. Under $150 delivered. The bolts, though super cheap, require disassembling the shocks which is a total pain, and an expense if you can't do it yourself. Any shop will do it for 50 bucks (or less). Otherwise, pony up for air ride or 422's. Either is an excellent choice.

I got a deal on a pair of new 422s. I got them to lower the bike 2 inches.
On the day I went for a test ride, it was noticable how much smoother the 422s are!
They are worth the money.

it really depends it you car about the stiffness of the suspension... comfort of the ride...

if you don't care, use progressive drop-ins for the front and lowering bolts for the back (you will loose travel and have a much stiffer ride). if you do care get new / used fork tubes that shorter from the factory made for another softail or DBI fork tubes, that way they will be lower with out loosing any travel and get air suspension like shotgun or other brand (you will not loose travel and maintain that comfy cushy ride).

41 mm Tubes
FLT 1984-1996 20-7/8"
FLT 1997-later 20-1/4"
FLSTC/N/F 1986-1999 22-7/8"
FLSTC/N/F 2000-later 22-1/4"
FXWG ,FXST/C 1984-1999 24-1/2"
FXDWG,FXST/C 2000-later 24-1/4"

Edit: there are higher end lowering kits that will give you that stock feel with less travel loss, but the above is my personal opinion
