Hey everyone, im currently having a problem downshifting at idle.. obviously im a newbie to a harley n recently i came to a red light n i forgot to down shift as i was slowing down. I was at a red light in 4th gear. So i tried to downshift at a dead stop n it downshifted to third alright but after that the shift lever just sank down without shifting. To be honest i made the same mistake wen i first bought my*bike*n it downshifted fine at a stop sign or two. Is there a way i could fix this or did i ruin my tranny somehow? Any help is greatly appreciated! Bike is a 2015 deluxe...
There are two things you could do;
1. ride properly and don't forget to downshift
2. if you find yourself in 4th again in that situation you'll find letting the clutch out just to the biting point will encourage the shift lever to return to the central point so that you can engage the next lower gear. You will have to repeat this for each gear.
How someone ends up on a brand new Harley without having learnt the basics is beyond me.

What is the name of your motorcycle training school again?
No need to bash me! Honest mistakes as a newbie. N how i ended up on a new bike was alot of hard work n patience as im sure most of the other riders on here ended up on their bikes! I needed help not criticism
Pnut, it's normal. Get all the way down to first before you've come to a complete stop. The dog-style transmissions don't shift reliably when no internal parts are moving.

You need to do two things to survive in the Macho Man, Village People World of the Harley Davidson Internet Know It All.
1) Grow thicker skin - this will prevent the HD Pirates from infecting you with their vial comments.
2) Learn & master the art of sarcasm. True HD Pirates will take offense because they believe their words are golden even though it was spun using their own excrement.
Now as your new bike goes - As you said, you worked hard for the bike, paid a lot of good money for it and expect it to work properly. If you think there is a problem with it, take it back to the dealer and have them look at it under warranty. The warranty was included in the original purchase price.
A bunch of incoherent replies. I'd have the clutch adjustment checked, internal at the indy if you're not comfortable with it. External is a loose dime to a nickel at the grip.
oops, at the dealer not indy, I didn't see that it was a 2015 Deluxe. Congrats on the new scoot.
