I put these on my bike last week and the one on the pipe side fits fine but the one on the primary side has a slight wiggle to it even though it seems to be screwed on as tight as possible.
The wife & I went for a ride the other day and she said she could hear something ratteling. I figured out it's the primary side rear axle cover.
I believe I followed the installation instructions to a tee.
That's the side with the axle nut/cotter pin. Check that the pin isn't ****-eyed such that the cover is hanging on it. If so just turn the axle a smidgen so the pin is clear of the cover.

That sucks man, good luck. Those damn things are expensive.
Yeah, their wicked expensive! It took me all fall & winter of searching Ebay to find a pair at about 1/2 the price of retail.
They came new in the original box with all the parts & instructions.
When I originally went to install them, I found that my axle had been inserted from the wrong side so the covers would not fit. It doesn't really matter which side your crown nut is on unless you want to install these covers.
The only way they would go on was so that the Harley-Davidson script was upside down! [:@]
After getting the axle inserted from the correct side, one cover ended up wabbly.
One problem is that you can't really see what's going on under the cover because the cover is in the way.
I thought I'd post the question here because I figured I can't be the only person who ever ran into this problem....................Not! [sm=headbang.gif]
I hope you get it worked out Alien. Your bike is a helluva creation. Doesn't it always work that way though. You wait and wait and visualize that one little thing that will make you happy and when you get there BAM!!!! It doesnt quite work out, it is a let down and just plain pisses you off. I got the black axle covers and messed up applying those little aplique circles that read "HD Softail Chassis" or something like that. I thought they were so cool when i seen them on other bikes. Man Iwas ticked. Then I heatgunned them, pulled the damn emblems and now they are just plain black. Oh well. Hope you can get them to fit right and compliment the ride.
Just recently installed those. I would take that side off and put it back on again. When you screw the axle ajuster bolt onto the backing plate, you have to start screwing it in as soon as your able to. other wise the plate ends up to far back. Which will result in your cover being in the wrong place.
