I have one for my 03. It looks cool but the tach placement on the tank renders it completely useless unless you're stopped. If you have a manual idle control like me then it's useful. But at idle is the only time.
You do NOT want to look down at your tank when going for redline.
I had a handlebar mounted tach on my Road King and it was a lot more useful as it was close to my peripheral vision. I'd strongly suggest against the tank mounted unit if you like revving through the gears like I do (and I think you do...).
By the way our bikes have a rev limiter at 5200 so unless you're getting a time slip, you can use that. lol
Tapping the rev limiter in my Vette will cost me .05 so it's critical to stay out of it even though I have the recovery set as quickly as possible. That's not so critical on Racetrack 54. ;-)
I would do something more heads up if you want function...I rarely look that far down and use mine for speed. When I have a full face, it's dangerous.... Combos do look better however. I doubt I could see an LED one half the time except at night. Never use it to shift or anything like that. Harleys have a rev limiter but I rarely exceed 4K and have never seen 5K. People say they can take it however. Mine does not feel happy at that rpm , besides my guardian angel is a scaredy-cat..?HA
