Default removing control (dash) panel

Tried to remove dash panel on tank and the damn thing is stripped on the inside of the panel. The acorn nut just spins and nothing. I was going to get a dremel and try to cut it off somehow without gouging the chrome panel. Does anyone know of a better way to get it off?

Thanks

the bolt that holds it down has a square behind the head that fits into a tab to keep it from spinning. could it possibly be that as you loosened the nut you let the bolt sink too low and it is not grabbing? if not then the tab got bent out of shape and is not holding it. if it is loose enough you should be able to push up on the dash and it will slide past the tab and release

I have had that happen on a couple of bikes I have worked on. I use a pair of vice grips with rubber jaw covers so I can grab the nut while pulling up at the same time.

Man, what a pain in the *** this is turning out to be. I'm trying but having no luck. When i put vice grips on it I can't turn very far because of the ignition.

I finally got it off. Gonna have to buy a new chrome panel for the instruments because I f'ed up this one trying to pry it up while turning. Another $150...... I used air impact with screw driver prying up after no luck with a wrench or vice grips...

Hey thanks for the picture, it helped tremendously
