Default 1989 Softail Custom

Hey HD Gurus, my father has an old 89 Softail that's been sitting in the garage for years. It only has 4100 miles on it and he bought the bike brand new.

For the HD experts out there, is there any well known issues with the 89 Softail that I should investigate? The tires, fluids, and hoses will be inspected and replaced but didn't know if there were any other issues worth looking into.

Thanks!

If its been sitting as long as it seems, you might think about top-end gaskets. When you say 'fluids' make sure that also invloves brake fluids, front and rear. Last year before HD went to a CV carb.

You should give the carb change serious consideration. The rubber compliance fitting was a cheap way for HD to mount the carb to the intake; CV carbs used a solid manifold. CV isn't the only choice...S&SE, Mikuni are 2 others.

Thanks Panz,

Upon further inspection, the carb is an S&S one but still need it cleaned after sitting for so long.
