I have a 2000 carb'ed Fatboy, got the red flashing engine light on my way home the other day. Under heavy throttle (higher RPM's) the bike backfires, sputters, and dies.
Wondering what the procedure is to show the codes?
Our bikes are different than the new ones. You cannot read them by holding the button on the speedo. To read the codes, you need to make a jumper wire with a female lead on both ends. Under your seat, next to your battery, on the primary side, you will see a plugs with 4 posts in it. You need to jump two of the posts (I think 3&4) and then your engine light will start flashing. you need to count the flashes to determine the code.
A Manual makes this pretty easy. I think I added more info in the sticky at the top of this forum.
