Anyone with with a new 07 FXST find a decent exaust system. Slip ons, full pipes, or modified the stock pipes to get a better sound? a buddy told me I could take out the baffles and drill some holes thru them and reinstall them, could I just take them out completely?? My otherbuddies got the programmer for the fuel/air adjustments. I'll prolly just get a K&N stage 1 air kit, I cant quite afford a nice set of pipes right now, I just wanna know ifyou other riders have installed, read, or modified your own pipes. I just want LOUD, I want to turn heads. Im not looking for any major HP gains, theres already plenty HP i gotta get used to.
Just put some Vance and hines pipes on and a V & H fuel pak and you will be fine. For $700 you are done. You will get nice sounding loud pipes and your bike will run richer. More power will come with a SERT or PCIII. But if you just want loud the Pak and Pipes are the way to go. Mapping is not needed.
i would have to say the vance & hines big radius is hands down...the best lookin pipes for a soft tail. it gives it a custom appearance...and the fuel pak? no, get the power commander usb III...this allows you to change sooo much and ive heard the fuelpaks good for only pipes....more mods...you need the power commander. You can also take it in and get it tuned on the dyno by a registered power commander dyno tuning facility and get max hp,throttle response....etc. itll take an hour or two so multiply that by your shops rate and thats your price...my custom map was about 150$$$ of well spent money
and if you say, ah idont need major hp gains, you need to get used to it....give it a month....youll be wantin to go fast.. i did the same thing...trust me
I've got an 07 FXST and the stock pipes are worthless. Anything over 40+mph and you can't even hear the pipes.
I'm installing V&H Big Shots Staggered this weekend. I've heard nothing but great things about them. Once I get them on, I'll report back.
I bought 'em from Eastern Performance for around $460. Couldn't beat that price! Even the Stealer told me to buy 'em because they couldn't touch that price.
I'm currently experimenting with the baffles on my 07 heritage. I drilled out the baffles using a 2" hole saw. I added some holes and added a collar that fits over the outside of the baffle and inside the pipe. I got the idea from this sitehttp://xlforum.net/vbportal/modules.php?name=Jig. Just search for gronks standard muffler mod. Instead of welding them back in I made that collar so I could run baffleless or quiet. I found that mod isn't loud enough and baffleless is too loud so today I drilled out the plug and will try it when I get home. Will try to let you know how it goes. I also plan to make an insertable plug for the times when I go to michigan and the noise restrictions are tighter than here in wisconsin. There is alot of talk that the lower backpressure will affect performance. Maybe someday I'll dyno it.
Hope that helps
My buddy has the tuning thing for his 07 sportster, so im not worried about finding someplace or someone to tune it. I dont wanna get pipes that everyone else has. Im saving and looking for something different. Something withunique bends and cuts, But I havent seen anythingi likedfor07s. Mostly everything in the JP and the DK cataloggo up to 2006 with the exceptions of a few. Would 2006 pipes work on a 2007 FXST if I were to by pass the 02 sensor, or are they just mounted a different way then the 2006 pipes??

If he's useing a SERT to tune his bike with, you will NOT be able to use it on your bike.
Once they are 'married' to a bikes ECM & serial number, that's it. They will not function on any other bike.
