I am considering installing a direct replacement H4 LED plug and play LED bulb/lamp replacement. Several models of these state they may set a fault code (DTC) due to their low amperage. Does this mean they will display the "check engine" light or just set a fault code into ECM history. Has anyone found a dependable LED plug and play bulb replacement that is priced right and durable. I am considering the LED like DK Custom is selling, along with their driving light LED lamps. I am not considering the $300-$400 Daymaker type set up.
Th e one I had that claimed "no code" did in fact throw one and left me stranded in the dark one night.
The dealer reset it and informed me that they changed the code that is appropriate for LED. So now I can only use LED
I said "cool"!
I don't know the answer to that question. I don't know what Canbus controlled electronics is. Educate me, then I will let you know...lol
Harley runs 2 different electronics systems. Several models such as the later Softails use a Canbus system. The plug in under the seat or side cover on other models is square and it is where you can plug in power T tap, install a code reader or flash tuner. Reads into your wiring, systems and ECM.
Canbus is still a Delphi system. Delphi is the brand, canbus is a type of system.
There is no such thing as a code for replacing the headlight with an LED. If a dealer tells you that they sold you a line of ****.
LED indicators will set a code with canbus because it uses the measured resistance to determine if the bulb is functioning. On older bikes and cars there was a relay that relied on a specific amount of resistance to regulate the rate at which the indicators flashed. When you put LED's in there they have so much less resistance the relay would flash faster.
With the new canbus system, there is no relay so the speed of the flash is controlled digitally and does not rely on resistance. However, they programmed the BCM to flash the indicator on the dash quicker if there was a change in resistance. Because of this, with LED signals on a canbus system, the blinkers themselves will blink at a normal rate, but the indicators on the dash blink at double speed to let you know you have a bulb out.
