Default Just got a Deuce

I just got an 04 Injected Deuce, smokey gold and black. It has 16" (I think) apes and vance & hines big radius. The baffles have been removed from these pipes and I'm not sure what kind of intake it has on the bike but I think it's stock. How can I find out if I need to mess with the fuel management deal or if someone else has already tweaked it. In case I need to mess with the ECM and such, what's the best way to go for open drag pipes??

Thanks a bunch!

You may have a V&H Fuel pak... look under the seat and see if there are two modules... the Harley ECM will be dead center behind the battery... in the '04 installation of additional programmable modules, the add on unit sits in a well in the top of the fender right behind the ECM, usually. You may have a SERT... I think they were made for '04's.

You may just have a custom map downloaded to the HD ECM because your changes don't sound that radical.

You for sure had something done or you would be popping and farting all over the place with those pipes, especially with no baffle.

I don't think that drag pipes will perform better than what you have... and no baffles aren't as good as high performance pipes with baffles on a stock engine, either, I don't think... some back pressure is usually a good idea, but only a dyno will tell.

Why would you want drag pipes when you have vance and hines?

Drag pipes usually have no heat shields so they turn blue. The performanceyou will gain is not even noticable unless your bike is very modified. They are designed only to run at high rpm's,(not the type of driving you do on the street). If you want more bottom end put those baffles back in. I own a 04 deuce with the big radius and noticed a little loss of bottom end when i took the baffles out. I put them back in. To each there own but if you want a different look go for longshots, shortshots, staggered etc. Get a all around pipe with heat sheilds. Drag pipes do not look good after a week or so.They loose all there color, they are made for racing.

I guess you all can tell I'm a noob. Somehow I thought the Big Radius pipes fell in the "drag pipe" category. So no, I do not intend to change those pipes... they're freakin' cool. I did check under the seat and I only saw one module so I guess the V&H FuelPak is not on there, but the bike runs smooth and it doesn't pop so I'm pretty sure they did something....just don't know what. Here's a pic of my bike. I already purchased a progressive lowering kit so that will be the first mod that I'll perform.

My guess would be that when they did the pipes they also did a stage 1 upgrade. When I added my big radius, I had the stage 1 upgrade with no other mods. No pops and it runs great. Welcome to the Deuce fold.
