The usual Warranty question
I've done a lot searches here on the board about changing stuff on your bike while it's under warranty. It seems like it's 50-50 on the answers. If you modify them on your own some dealers will cover warranty work and some won't. Some will cover warranty work if they install the parts and some won't. I bought the new one from a different dealer and don't really know them to good.
I did a few things to my '15 Breakout before the wreck but I had over 7000 miles on it and not much of a warranty left since I bought it used (Tuner, air cleaner and exhaust).
I haven't rode in about a month (since the wreck). Just put around 10 or 15 miles on it today. I can't stand the exhaust. Too quiet for me. I'm going to call the dealer where I bought it and see what they would charge to put on the exhaust and tuner ( I am going with the Big Radius again and want the FP3 again). I would rather put the stuff on myself. Plus I can get the parts cheaper than what they are going to charge me.
The question is should I pay the higher price that they are going to charge me or take the chance and do it myself and hope the warranty is still good?

I disagree.... I have the Big Radius 2 into 1 and I love it. All depends on the look you're going for. I would definitely put the exhaust in myself though and get the tune and tuner from Fuel Moto. This way, you won't have to give the stealership one red cent. A Powervision from Fuel Moto with their custom tune and 7 Auto-tune sessions..... and your good to go!

I worked at a dealership for three years. Dealers may differ on answers and opinions but there is warranty law that speaks to this very question. To sum it up, unless it can be proven that the parts you put on the bike or your actions contributed to the failure the dealer must still cover the bike.
ie; if you do a tuner/exhaust and your speedo goes out, dealer should cover. The rub come in if your have an engine issue and the dealer claims the bike was running too lean and you did the work. Then there could be an issue. Anyone can refuse anything and risk lawsuit or arbitration, there are no hard and fast rules and HD dealerships are independently owned and therefore anything and anything can/has/will happen.
I would not do my own tuning if I expected and wanted to be sure of the warranty coverage. Just my opinion, some may be comfortable enough to do so and stand by their work. I am not.

Harley can basically do whatever they want on a warranty issue, unless you bring a lawsuit, and are willing to dump more bucks into making your case than they are.
If a modification isn't supposed to void your warranty, get it in writing!

Dayum...I'm glad my HD dealers aren't a-holes. They respect the upgrades I've done and still work with me. Only 6 months left of warranty, their labor/parts prices only 20% above the indy. I have no complaints other than a clutch cable that was discontinued, but how can I blame anyone for that?
