Just picked up my new Ultra Classic yesterday. Have been watching the forum and have decided on fatcat with quiet baffle, ANBS, and Thundermax Auto Tuner. My question is when to put these items on the bike---after 1k break-in or later? I was talked into extended warranty and read the fine print last night that specifically says motorcycle not covered if nonapproved exhaust by harley is installed. Called guy who sold it to see what is approved and he hemmed and hawed and said it is grey area dependent on dealership---that they would stand by the bike but other dealers may refuse to do warranty work or have a rep declare warranty void. I would appreciate feedback on both bikes. By the way, I have read info on forum suggesting that HD has to prove the installed aftermarket product caused the warranty issue. For those of you who went for it despite warranty problems, let me hear your thoughts. For those who are more conservative, let me hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
I had the Vance and Hines Duals and Oval Mufflers installed on my bike by my dealer, they told me the same thing, that they would cover it if warranty work was needed but that another dealer may not. I have never experienced any warranty work on my bike but I had a problem with my truck once and an aftermarket intake system didn't make any difference to the Ford dealer, it was covered because it didn't cause the problem. Good luck
in my not so humble opinion... i wouldn't wait at all... the only parts you are concerned about this early in the motors life are bearings and rings... installing an exhaust, AC and tuner won't affect how it breaks in at all... oh ya, and don't baby it during break in either...
this is how we used to break in our race bikes (and street bikes)... they were consistently strong runner compared to my buddies who babied it during break in... only thing i'd wait on is switching to synthetic oils... give it til about 7-10,000 miles before you do that... motor should be well seated by then...
