Default What are these Engine marks

Looking to buy a Fatboy, I got some pics sent to me of the bike and on one of them I noticed some marks or the paint missing above the exhust. Anyone know what this is ? I asked if the bike had ever been dropped but the owner of course said NO, But why should the paint be coming off ? You cant really see by this pic but near the rear shock are some marks, they look pitted, like hit by a large grain sand blaster, I dont know how to explain it, like really small craters ???

Looks like either corrosion or possibly some mother that hasnt been clean up properly. Either way simple fix. What year is the bike? if you see it in real life take your finger and see what that "Bloth" is. If it looks like it is in the powder coat get a Mr Clean Magic Earser and clean it. if it is corrosion (metal starting to detiroite) treat it with some wire brush, naval jelly and then a good primer and then black engin powder coat.

Might be overspray from oven cleaner used to remove boot marks from exhaust...just a guess.
It does look like something corrosive though.

Almost looks like dried soap from washing and not rinsing it all off.

Looks like wax. Once you get wax on the black engine, it is real hard to get it off.

Once again Mr Clean Magic Earser will get wax, polish, oven cleaner spots anything (or anything I have found) off the black part of your engine. For those that use "Easy Off" on mufflers try some 000 steal wool, its another great thing to clean up the chrome and it wont harm it just make it shine like new.

That's right below the battery - maybe the battery vent hose isn't long enough and dumped some overflow acid on the frame. Sure looks like the results of battery acid to me.
