cam question on 16 breakout
what's up guys. I did an intro a few days ago.. new here and will be picking up my new BO this weekend. Obviously I don't know enough about the 103b engine, and I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere else so I thought why not ask the experts here.... Does the 2016 BO 103B engine have one of the new hydraulic cam chain tensioner kits like the Screamin Eagle upgrade kit or is it the same plastic tensioner design they have used since the 90s, that has been known to wear out and fail without warning?
The maintenance schedule makes no mention of this important inspection but I'm told I should manually ask them to inspect it every 5-10k miles.
thoughts?

there are actually two tensioners and both are plastic on the wear portion, and are also hydraulic with metal piston. really not much of any issue with the new design / nothing to worry about. I have about 5k miles on bike and just looked at them- no wear was evident.
The b represents the internally balanced motor. Softails have them. All stock 103 cams are epa paperweights, and yes the 16s have a larger tb. Don't get excited about the tensioners. I had no wear to worry about at 13000 miles.

In terms of engine the main differences between 2013-15 BO and m.y. 2016 are cams and 50mm electronic throttle body (and 4.3 injectors if I remember well while previous were 3.9) instead of the classic 46mm. This means that throttle by wire has been implemented obviously. That's why they called the 2016 engine "HO", High Output which sounds quite fascinating but in reality the difference is about a couple of hp and probably a quicker throttle response. Already having a bigger electronic throttle body is a better base to start with if wishing to go for a stage II or III and might also implement the optional cruise control...
As correctly stated by cdonis "B" stands for balanced which basically should grant minor vibrations compared to previous engines.
