Default Springer Risers

I've been looking for a set of taller risers for my 1998 FXSTS and the majority are off set risers. Why did they make them like this? Is it an old school nostalgia thing? I read some where that the bushings in the risers where it off sets help with vibration. Is this it, or is there another reason?

Here's a link to paughco, with the risers I'm talking about. http://www.paughco.com/2008-catalog/...20Paughco.html

There used to be an adapter you could screw in the top of your forks and then install any risers you wanted. I can't remember who sold it.

I rode to sturgis from seattle on the wild 1 T-bars. Then I rode on my wife's dyna a bit, it had quite a bit more pullback that I loved. But I just couldn't find a good setup that fit my bike. So..... I'm just keeping the T-bars

This is the adapter I was thinking of:

http://www.jpcycles.com/product/2300460

I almost bought them, but I didn't wanna waste 40 bucks if it didn't work.

Have you seen the adapter plates?

I think the adapter plate looks out of place unless you replace the whole tripple tree like the one in the link.

I def don't want an adapter. Accutronix sells the risers, but I feel like they are out of place on a springer and the other option comes offset.http://www.paughco.com/2008-catalog/...20Paughco.html
Anyone know the reasoning behind them being offset like this?

Just something to think about. The MOCO Springer risers are NOT the same as the Paughco/DNA style risers. And the do not interchange.

Any Paughco/DNA style riser will bolt to a moco springer with a simple adapter stud.

Basically saying that offset risers aren't necessarily the way to go? MOCO wanted to have a standard riser out of the box, not an offset?

They allow the handlebars to rise and come back (or forward) as much or as little as you want.

I'm still wondering what you mean about the H-D Springers having "offset" risers.

Are you referring to the wider spacing between the risers compared to other models?

If so they are like that because the forks on the Springer are wider apart towards the top. Since the riser studs screw into the top of the forks to hold down both the top tree and then the risers, they are spaced for that purpose.

All Harley's have some sort of bushings. The Springers' bushings just happen to sit over the stud which places them up into the riser a bit. Other Softails have the bushings down in the triple tree.

Not really sure why you are having such a hard time finding taller Springer risers. Usually the issue for people with Springers is finding handlebars. That's because you can spread risers as close or as far apart as you want but the riser itself is the same thing. However handlebars have to be made with the proper spacing at the center to be mounted to the wider risers. Especially if they are stepped at the mounting points. If you really need to expand your options then your best best is to replace your triple tree with one of those that lets you run your risers closer together like on other Softails.
