Default Are Speedometer Problems Common With Softails

I just acquired an '06 Fatboy about a month ago. I have only put 500 or so miles on it and the speedometer stopped yesterday. The odometer still works. When I turn the switch to the accessory position it turns all the way to 120 mph and slowly drops back to 0. I was wondering if the Softail models and the Fatboys in particular are known to have speedo problems.

Pull the speedo sensor on the trams. Might have gunk built up on it.

Reaper is an '05 Night Train. She has over 107,000 miles on her, and her speedo has always functioned just fine.

Cheers!

No problems with my 05 Springer, I've had her for 11 years and with over 96k on her and all my gauges work perfectly.

Never had a problem with my 05 Nightrain and that had 30k on it when I traded it in. If the odometer works, its not the speed sensor.

I have a 2005 Softail Standard with 22k on the clock. Never an issue with the speedo. Fuel gauge a different story. I also have a 2006 Heritage Classic with 88k on it without a speedometer issue. No fuel gauge issues on this one.

02 Softail, no issues. Got rid of the broke dick fuel gauge years ago.

Mine (2004 with 50K) has never missed a beat but the tac is crazy above 3000 in cold weather like it sticks and jumps at 1000 leaps back and forth.. They are servo motor driven by digital input. I would pop the console off and pug and unplug it. Bet that is all it is. Could be the sensor but I doubt it. They do get metal on the pickup and act up however.
