Fluid change
Not trying to be sarcastic but if you intend to service and wrench on your bike, buy a service manual. What year and model is your bike?
Usually a quart or less in trans and primary, full them until they are full as per manual. About 3.5 to four quarts for engine, everyone has their own preference there.

The manual states for the primary 32 OZ. wet and 40 Oz. dry. If I'm just changing would I go with 32 Oz?
And it states 28Oz. for the transmission.
Does this sound ok?
Thanks.
Put 2.5qts in the engine, start it for 30 seconds and fill to where you are happy on the dipstick (2.5qts is almost perfect in the tank if you are priming the oil filter)
The primary should come up and just touch the bottom edge of the clutch diaphragm spring, roughly 1.1-1.2qts.
If the book says 28oz in the tranny, put 28oz in it and check on the dipstick. (I thought all OE six-speeds were 36oz, but I have so many numbers in my head I could be mixing stuff up)

Wet is what you reference to. Dry means when it's been tore down. My '14 Deluxe manual says 28oz for the tranny, but then says below that to check and add accordingly which is a quart in the end.

Over the years I've become confident enough to just throw 3 qts into my Breakout oil tank. Naturally, I check for leaks, hot levels and all that after the fact. I have yet to adjust levels after the fact.
I run with oil levels up to max on the dip stick and don't subscribe to procedures that recommend 1/2 way up the stick as sufficient. Oil "cools" V-twins too so the more the merrier up to the full mark IMHO.

3-1-1 and you're good to go. 3 qts in the crankcase and 1 qt in the primary and transmission. The 3 in the crankcase will make it a hair over the full mark because there is still a little oil in the engine that you really can't get out. You can use a little under 3 if you like. Ride the bike 10 miles or so to warm it up, then let it sit for about 20-30 minutes to cool enough to work on.
Be sure to prime the new filter before installing.
