Default Softail Slim build thread

Guess it is time to start a build thread. I have only had the bike a few months so I haven't got much done to it yet. Big plans for it down the road though. I always wanted a Softail Slim but didn't like the price tag. Got a great deal on her brand new and traded in my 48.

I won't bore you with adding black parts like the primary cover, fork strip, etc. First actual project was to get some bags to carry lunch and gym clothes to work etc. I couldn't find any bags I liked that weren't expensive or didn't "fit" the bike. (I'm always looking for a deal and a project to save some cash to spend elsewhere).

Long story short I bought some used Harley throwovers and cut the yoke off and made them Quick Detach. Made my own brackets to fit tight against the bike and not kill the look of the bike.

Next up was the fact that I hated the look of the floorboards and felt cramped plus drug them all the time. I picked up some used forward controls from a FXST and modified them and mounted them. Cut off the brake pedal and used a shifter peg instead. Much cleaner look. Decided to start the brass and black theme. I plan to drill and powdercoat the forwards black.

Before and after to compare the cleaner look of the forwards.

Looks great! One of the best things I did to my Slim was to change the handlebars for 12" Road6 Customs. With your forward controls, you might find this to be a valuable mods for riding comfort. Here's a few pics of mine with the bars.

Keep the pics coming!
