Hey guys I'm normally over on the Sportster page but need your help on the value of a Softail a guy is wanting to trade in on a one of our jet boats.
I thought it was a nice stock bike but when he dropped it off for appraisal It's obviously been customized quite a bit.
It's a 2006 with 12,000 miles, springer front end and custom paint, normally I would go around NADA book but not sure if the changes would make it worth more or less than a stock Softail.
Of course being a boat dealer we are looking to flip it fast so again not sure if this would take longer to retail than a stock bike.
Starts and runs good and drives straight.
Any thoughts on value and resale ability would be appreciated.
The only potential issue I would see is the cam chain tensioners. They usually wear out at 20-40K. However, with only 12K miles, that shouldn't be a problem.
Its a slick bike. But as stated it will be hard to sell and to the right person only. I'm of the opinion the mods don't add value unless you are that guy who loves the mods and doesn't want to spend the dime/time to make them happen on another bike. I'd offer on the lower side because to be frank, you may never turn that around.

That's the biggest issue. They need to be checked at the very least. There have been reports of complete failures at that mileage. It would be unfortunate to sell it on, and have it fail right after and have the customer come back at you on it.
Another issue is the injector nozzles if it's a FI bike. Some had a narrow pattern nozzle, later '06 models had the wider pattern nozzle. The narrow pattern nozzle caused some rideability issues in some bikes.
The Harley used bike market is in the toilet...worst I have seen in a while. The new motor that came out has made it even harder to sell a used bike... especially an 88" 5 speed twinkie...low mileage nice evo's are bringing more than 2000-2006 bikes.
A big difference in price is what brand that springer is...it is not a harley part...could be an Paughco...could be an DNA...I wouldn't have the later.
Unless you luck up and find someone who gets a hard-on when they see it...that's a 5k bike.

Awesome, I appreciate the input, I think we are going to take it on trade but I think we will run it up to the local HD dealer for a quick inspection to be safe.
HD dealer could give you particulars on bike by the VIN, prior to any modifications.
Any info on the title?
A good parts or service tech might even be able to help with the brand of springer
Wholesale on that bike? 4-5K?
