07 Deuce, 96-B, 6 speed, vibration problem
Hello all. I,m new to the site.
I am in need of advise for my Deuce vibration problem. I took her in for a new HD automatic primary chain adjuster at 31k due to a slight vibration.
When I picked it up I was told it was "within vibration tolerance" ?
When I rode, it had a horrible vibration starting at idle, teeth rattle at 60mph plus ,(2500 rpm plus) This bike developed this same problem at 4700 miles, and a new tentioner fixed the problem.
I removed the primary cover (hot) to find a bone tight chain. I bought another HD tentioner, installed and after a few miles, same problem.
I,ve now installed the Baker Attitude, set it at 5/8th slack (cold). much
improvement, but after riding 30 miles, vibration is back. Tore it down (hot)
to find 3/8th slack. (no metal on drain magnet) no play in clutch hub or
SE compensator.
Bought her new, 31k easy miles, stock motor, even stock mufflers. all 3 holes changed regular, Formula plus in primary/trans.
Don,t know what to do next ! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. I guess that should be next. I have driven this bike so easy,
with regular fluid changes , mechanics visits, completely stock, and only 31K, its hard to think the worst has happened.
My friend has same bike with tuner and big radius. He,s 300 lbs and its ***** to the wall after every startup, with no problems.

Interesting post, I have a 2010 softail custom, 37k miles. I keep up with regular fluid changes, and ride it more or less sedately; it also has the 96B engine, six speed. I don't have any vibration at all. This particular model year, (as I have come to learn) has the counter balanced crank, rubber mounted dampers, dual overhead cams, and EFI. When at idle, it is relatively smooth, not like a metric, but close. Other HD engines have that characteristic "lope" to the engine where one cylinder is a half step behind the other. Mine sounds like a 350V8 with a race cam. So..........
I was wondering if your vibration is due to a non counterbalanced crank, carburated intake, and single cam?

dual overhead cams? (oops)
Ok, I'm high. what I meant to say was: Its a dual cam, overhead valve..............not dual overhead cams......silly me.
I had to look up the specs online....

Thanks for the reply Lone Rider 01,
My bike is the 07 Softail Deuce with the 96B ,six speed ,EFI. I,ve talked to the guys
at Harley who feel it may be a clutch or transmission bearing. (at only 31K very easy miles? )
I will be taking it to them next. If they cannot solve the problem, my Harley riding days are over. I,m tired of the problems.
I,ve owned an 08 Custom anniversary that I sold with 5K due to hand surgery. nice bike !
