I just picked up a 2015 slim with 2k miles on it. I'm having an issue with the speedometer in it "sticking" when you get to 60-70. The needle gets jumpy and then won't go back under 70 until you turn the ignition on and off a few times.
Could it be a faulty speed sensor? Any other thoughts?
Yea, sounds like the speed sensor. Any other issues like the turn signals not automatically turning off after you make a turn? Or engine shutting off when coasting to a stop?
I can't say I noticed them turning off on their own or not. I just rode the bike 230 miles from the dealer today. This is my first Harley, I've never had a bike with auto canceling signals so I didn't even pay attention.
I'm going to reach out to them tomorrow morning and see what they say. Hoping they will cover the cost without requiring me to bring it back. I paid attention today to the self cancelling turns and they seem to be working fine. Speedo seems fine also but I didn't get over 60 at all today and that's where it started giving me issues.
Factory warranty ran out in march so they might play that card but I hope they are willing to work with me.
From what I can tell the speed sensor is fairly easy to change. Anyone have the part number handy?
If the auto-shutoff for your turn lights doesn't work while the Speedometer and odo are out it's the VSS.
It's a cheap part in a bad place to get to. It's been a common problem for years on Harleys.
I am having the above problem with the speedometer not working and the signals not cancelling on my 03 Sportster. The odometer comes on but doesn't change the mileage. Sometimes I can shut the bike off and start it again and everything works again. This sound like the speed sensor too?
