Softail Nightmare
I have a 2011 Heritage softail classic, it has always beenserviced at a Harley dealership, and I have only worked on the bike once, itwas in an accident the first year I had it and it was totally repaired, and itnow only has about 21000 miles on it... About 3 month ago I noticed a small oilleak and so I changed the seal on the drain plug for the transmission.... tookit in to the dealership and had them check it, they said it was still leakingand that it looked like my primary oil pump so I had them order a new expensiveoil pump... didn't ride the bike except home.... 2 weeks later they got the newoil pump in, and I took the bike in to have the work done.... after waiting anhour I was called into the shop and shown that no it wasn't my oil pump butthat I would need a new transmission....
A bike with only 21000 miles needing a new transmission hasblown my mind... 3 k to have this done is even worse since I am still paying onthe bike... with the information I sat down and wrote each of the board membersand heads of each department at Harley telling them about the problem and thatthe dealership even said they had not seen a problem this bad before.... wellat this point 2 to 3 months later I have yet to hear a thing from Harley exceptsomeone from customer service contacted me to ask me some questions about theproblem... 3 weeks ago.... that's all I have heard, its like I bought thebike.... and my connection to Harley is done unless they want to sell mesomething else....
I guess I am so frustrated by the whole thing because thiswas a present I bought myself for retiring from the military.... 21 year activeduty I earned it.... I mention that because all I see is how Harley boastsabout how it believes in the military, thanks but I believe its just a bunch of lip service...even if I had not retired from the military I would think you would respectyour customers more then this...

The bike is a 2011 which means it is out of warranty.
Did the transmission run dry from the leak?
Something that really stands out that you wrote "primary oil pump". Please explain

no never ran it dry... the reason why they say I need a new transmission is because there is a shim that is on shaft that runs into the gear box side from the clutch side, and that shim is cracked and has moved into the gears....
the reason why I said primary oil pump is because that is what the repair people told me it was, which honestly didn't make much sense, but I have never taken down a Harley motor and was hoping I was paying for their expert opinion....

The engine has an oil pump. There is no primary oil pump. They are not fixing it under warranty since the bike is six years old. They are trying to hood wink you. The fact they are talking about a part that doesn't exist is evidence of that.
Get the bike to an independent shop so they can determine what is wrong and recommend a reasonable repair.
Worst case scenario, if the transmission needs to be replaced, get a Baker. Mark with Baker drive train is an active member on this forum and is known for being a stand up guy that everybody likes.
Baker transmissions are not the cheapest, but they are the best. If the transmission goes out on my Evo, I will put in a baker od6 or dd6.
I know it sucks to have this problem with low mileage, but at the end of the day, the warranty is usually stated in terms of XX months / XXXXX miles, whichever comes first.
Check out the photo album of my bike. I have a few custom covers with the square and compasses machined into the them such as the derby cover etc.
