Everything you need to know about battery sulfate:

lead-acid storage batteries will develop sulfate during their life time. This includes the new sealed "dry" such as Optima, Odyssey, Exide and Interstate branded AGM-spiral-wound types. Batteries develop sulfation each time they are used (discharged - recharged). If they are overcharged or undercharged or left discharged, some for even just several days, they will rapidly develop sulfate. Even when a battery is stored fully charged, sulfate will form unless a desulfating battery charger is used. Using or storing batteries in temperatures above 75°F accelerates the rate of self-discharge and increases battery sulfation dramatically. In fact, the discharge rate doubles, as does sulfation, for every 10°F rise above room temperature.

Use a Desulfating Battery Charger to Reverse the Damage

A sulfated battery can be safely restored using high frequency electronic pulses (NOT high voltage). Unlike other pulse type chargers that claim this or similar sounding features, VDC's BatteryMINDers® desulfating battery chargers use a range of high frequencies. This ensures both old and newly formed battery sulfation will be safely dissolved in the shortest possible time. Other pulse type chargers using just one fixed frequency may remove some, but not all, especially long established - hardened sulfate crystals.

I have had several tenders go bad over the years and that is exactly what they do when they fail. Ron

Harley batteries are made by Deka. You can get the same battery at O'Reilley.

In summary:
Not junk
Warrantied.
Cheaper to buy the one without the Harley branding on it.
Warrantied huh? Maybe someone should inform the two dealers in my town about it.

Yes, they're junk.

My stock OEM HD battery lasted 8 years.

Most reviews of HD (or Deka) batteries that I've came across are positive.

I chose Deka this time because it could be had for far less. So far no problems. I really don't expect any either.

Wasting your breath. TeaRunner believes they're junk and you won't change his opinion.

Again, made by Deka, not junk.

If your dealer didn't honor the warranty, I would suggest another dealer. I had a one go bad after 6 months. Took it to the dealer, they charged and tested, walked out with a new battery.

They have a 1 year limited warranty when purchased from Harley. They have 2 years when purchased some other places (same battery) with different branding.

What's with this badgering BS? You'd think I stole your daughter's virtue.

Again, back to back batteries, less than 6 months each. I get it, you work for Deca or a dealer. I don't really care. I've stated my experience with your junk. That's not going to change. No amount of harranguing will change it.

F off already. You won't be changing my opinion of your product. You can stop shaking your fist at the sky now.

LOL. Someone challenges your rant with facts, so they must work for Harley. Too funny.

If you are too inept to get a new battery when it fails under warranty, the only one to blame is yourself.

If your first one failed after 6 months, and the dealer would not honor the warranty, why did you buy another Harley battery?

I don't care about your opinion. I am laughing at your incompetence and your attempt to blame said incompetence on others rather than yourself.

Yawn.

Dealer wouldn't warranty either one. I believe I alluded to that.

I'm sorry I offended your relationship with your battery. By all means, go marry your battery and have a wonderful life with it.

You're still not changing anything. A warranty does not exist if it is not honored. A battery that lasts less than six months is junk. Went through 2, same results on both.

You can not only F off now, you can blow me as well...

If that's not going to make your love battery jealous that is. I wish you a long and wonderful life with your junk batteries. Bye now.

Wow. My "junk" OEM battery in my Nightrain didn't need replacement until 13 years old. How long are your auto parts store batteries lasting?

Oh yea; retired & I've never worked for Deka or H-D.
