Default PC III Question for CA

Just ordered my pipes and A/C, as well as the PC III. However, he said this is not the EX model, and indicated that it shouldn't be an issue for California.

Realizing that he's a salesman, I take it with a grain of salt and look to those here who are more experienced and knowledgable... is this an issue to concern me? Do I need to cancel the PC III and get the EX instead? What am I missing here?

For reference, I've got an '07 Fat Boy and am installing the V&H Big Shots Staggered, with the SE A/C.

THANKS in advance! I've been searching and reading my tail off here - great information. I don't think I've seen this particular question asked/answered, though, so figured I'd better post while I can still change the order.

Roger

The EX is the newest model made to meet CA requirements, it will use the Stock O2 exhaust sensors but from what others said it is limited on programability and you wont get as much performance improvement vs a non EX model when properly dyno tuned.

note that if you get the NON-EX you can get the exhaust WITHOUT the o2 sensor bungs as you will be using O2 eleminators with the PCIII.

Also you may want to go with the K&N filter instead of the SE filter as I have read where the filter that Harley has sucks and falls apart.

Get the K & n air filter. It is better and you can get it at autoZone for $32 If I remember correctley. You will ahve to order it. As far as the EX model pcIII it is compliant with the bs air quality laws here in CA. Get the regular one as there is no smog inspection for bikes here.

Thanks for the quick input. I presume the filter you're talking about is the "K&N HD-0800 Filter" that Vertigo mentioned in my other post? I can have one ordered, if that's the right part number.

Yeah, that seemed to be the most popular. I presume the K&N filter you're talking about is just the physical filter element, not the housing and all - right? It just fits inside the SE housing?

I have a 2002 model and have not experienced what faction is talking about but it could be an issue for a newer bike...

WOW! That's a bummer, for sure. Given all the positives I've seen for the PC III, that sure counters the argument. Thanks for pointing out that thread - definitely more to consider.
