Friend is picking up a 16 Heritage today that I haven't seen yet. He said the front exhaust muffler has turned blue at the very end of it. Do these models have converters? Where would it be located if so . Bike has 7k on it and dealer said he would replace the muffler with a take off.
Thank for any info.
The cats are in the mufflers. Odd that it would blue at the end of the muffler...... I'd suggest your friend ask if it was a pipe defect or if it's been tuned badly. Also, my '16 is still under warranty until July. If your friends' is, hopefully they'll cover the issue.
CaptainKirk, Thanks for the reply. So changing mufflers will eliminate the cat. That sure is easier than on other models.
Dealer is replacing the muffler.
Seems if it was a bad tune the pipe closer to the head (s) would turn blue.
The pipe has a chrome heat shield if you look close to the head the pipe will probably be blued.
A set of slip on's and a FP3 will solve the bluing problem and cat.
The take off replace muffler may have a cat in it.
replacing the mufflers with some take offs.....
Good chance you will end up with the same thing.
The previous owner "took them off" to get rid of the cat/get better flow.
I do not have any "turned blue at the very end" on my Deluxe.
The head pipe before the muffler has changed color (under the heat shield) but not the very end of the mufflers.
I would be asking/checking into the tune, sounds like it could be running HOT.
But there are guys on here that know allot more about this subject than I do.
