Default Baggertail mount on 09 Heritage left side spacer

I'm installing a baggertail mount for my soon to arrive hard bags and for the life of me I can't figure out why the instructions have you put a 1.25" spacer behind the left foot peg between the frame and the baggertail mount.

Without the spacer the right and left sides match.
With the spacer the front of the lower left bar turns inward due to the spacer

Does anyone who has installed this mount know what this spacer's for?

Not sure about your 2009 but on my 2013, the left side foot peg mount is further from the bikes center line than the right side by about that much.

You hit it right.
The foot peg mounting bracket on the left side is about 1 1/4" shorter than the one on the right side.

When I measure from the splash shield to the inside of the frame at the left peg mount it measures about 2 3/4".

When I measure from the splash shield to the inside of the frame at the right peg mount it measures about 1 1/2".

So in order to even out the spacing the 1 1/4" spacer is added to the inside of the left frame at the peg mount so that the left side baggertail bar placement is equal to the right side which is at 1 1/2" from the splash shield.

My hard bags are "out for delivery".
I'll wait to see how the bags sit on the baggertail mounts without the spacer before I put the spacer in, but I'm sure based on what I'm seeing the spacer needs to be installed.

Thanks for the information.

Well my bags showed up and no doubt you need the spacer.
Very pleased with the outcome.

bags look great! Do you have a link for them and do they offer a quick detach option?

The bags are:
Amazon Amazon

The baggertail mounts are:
Amazon Amazon

If you’re on a budget there’s always the e-bay knock-offs if you don’t mind going that way:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SOFTAIL-SAD...72.m2749.l2649

As for quick disconnect option; I don’t think there’s an option.

Default Hard bags

Thanks for the links!! What's the difference between the two links you posted? They both look like links for bags. I'm guessing the 2nd link includes the mounting hardware, the first just the bags?

The first Amazon link is for the bags.
The second Amazon link is for the Cycle Visions baggertail mount
The third e-bay link is the Cycle Visions baggertail mount knock-offs
