Default Opinions on bike

My brother works in medicine, he is on call several days a month. He needs someone to let his dogs out and feed them when he is on call. I was doing it for a while, he lives 30 miles from me. So I made him an offer. He has a 2014 Softail heritage. It has 650 miles on it. He is asking 12k for it and I booked it out at NADA at a low of 10k to the high retail of 12k. So I made him an offer of 4k cash and I will take care of his dogs for several days a month for 20 months. I would keep the bike and title unsigned, that way if he passes in some freak accident I can get it in my name. I will keep insurance on it and maintain it.

Ya, he lives 30 miles away and it kills 3 hours a day and he makes 175k a year.

Seems that if you both trust each other then $4k for the bike, you get a signed title, it's yours, you keep your commitment and take care of the dogs. It's all about trust.

Reason #6,597 why I never, never, ever do business (nor entertain the notion of doing business) with family.

You don't trust him re the title, etc, but you expect him to trust you to take care of the dogs (which will become part of your contractual obligation, btw) even after you take possession of the bike?

You're a funny guy!

Trust has nothing to do with it. If he is in some kind of plane accident or car accident as far out as that may be I can still transfer the title in my name. Sounds like some of you here have trust and work ethic issues. If I wanted to cheat my brother when my father died and I found his safe with 210k in cash I would not have split it with my 3 brothers I would have kept it.

oooooh boy.... And who says blood is thicker than water..

BTW - If you find a clean low mile 2014 HSTC for 10k, I may buy it. Keep me posted..

Me, when one of my bros was deployed unexpectedly, the guys 'adopted' his dogs for a month at a time until he returned home safe 8 months later.. Not comparing myself to anyone, jus sayin..

My brother was paying a girl the same amount as we agreed on every month. She has kids and can no longer do it. I have an indoor cat, and two feral out door cats I take care of so can not have dogs around. It has to be in his home. One of his dogs [both are good dogs] is being crated during the day as he chews up the wood work. Not really sure what some are saying that if its family you just work for free for them. Well if it was a small thing on of that would not be an issue, but 2 years of work taking care of two dogs 30 miles away 10 days a month LOL that is not helping out on a week end. that is a part time job.

Just curious, so if it was you, you would just spend the time and money and just do it and suck it up? So it costs 30 hours a month or more if I have to stay over night and 100 bucks in gas a month plus the miles on my Truck. So you would just do it?

Nope...if it were me I would have used some of that 100k to purchase me a $4000 bike and let my brother deal with his own 4 legged problems.
