Default 2001 heritage rear brake caliper

Just curious if the rear brake on my 2001 heritage has a lot of play up and down. Making sure this is normal. Never noticed it until tonight. Any help will be appreciated

The rear caliper is secured by the rear axle and rests on the swing arm. It can have some movement but not inches of travel. What is the condition of your brake pads? Brake fluid level?

Are you talking about the caliper or brake pedal? If caliper, mmesa005 is spot on. If its the pedal mine is about an inch to inch and a half,(16 Deluxe).
