True but either way I will know now to keep the livhts out from behind me hopefully.

 

I am having the same issues on my 01 Softail. When I removed the speed sensor it too had shavings on it. I replaced it with one purchased online but it was not magnetic and made no difference. I put the old one back in and it works from time t time but not always and when not working will not display the millage. It has come on jumped to ten MPH and actually gave readings that were 10 mph off until shut off again so now I am unsure if its actually the sensor or the speedo? It adds up miles when it does work and the blinkers work also but when it don't all I get is 0.0 for millage. The bike has less than 10,000 mi on it.
