Default Bypass ignition switch?

Bike: 2003 Heritage Softail, fuel injected.

Spent 3 hours today with a friend on the side of the road waiting on a tow truck. His bike shut down at a stop sign. No electrical at all. Checked fuses, battery, etc. Nothing obvious. Fuses good. Battery had a charge, powered directly connected accessories. Fiddling with the ignition switch we could get some power with the accessory position, nothing on the run side.

Anyone know if the ignition switch just completes the circuit and could be bypassed by jumping the wires or if it does more?

It allows the whole system to charge, I believe.
Here is a link to a thread on how to disassemble and clean it. I did mine and have not had a problem since.

might want to double check the fuses and the wiring around them given the way the bike shut off,

Ignition is easily bypassed with jumper or switch, unkess you have security fob.

I got rid of the whole standard key type ignition switch and installed a totally sealed and coded push button ignition switch a few years ago.

I recently did this too, to clean up the dash. the wires on the push button are very thin. compared to OEM.
I also relocated the key switch to down near the horn because I like the idea of being able to lock the ignition.

I have no key. My switch has a built in ignition locking system that when activated requires a sequence code to unlock it.

Your setup is more advanced than mine.
Mine is just a lighted push button on/off switch. So having a key to turn off the power was a must.
I forget passwords so having to remember a code sequence wouldn't work for me.

Bought mine through DK Customs.
