Hey guys, I'm new here to the forum!
Can someone help me out please?
I own a 1995 FatBoy which I just purchase about a month ago and actually my wife pitched in because I'm turning 50 in a couple of weeks.
I've owned a few sport bikes in the past and a 1984 1000cc Virago, but my dream bike has always been a Older FatBoy.
I'm having an issue with the neutral light (It's not working). I checked the bulb and the voltage going to the socket and I get nothing (obviously when in neutral).
I think it may be the neutral switch?
I would like to check it but I do not know the location of this switch?
Can someone shed some light?
Thank you,
Spiros
The neutral switch is mounted onto the top cover on the transmission.
The neutral switch does not provide power to the circuit, it provides ground.
If you have no power at the bulb socket, it is not being caused by a faulty switch.
Pull the dash panel off, check the bulb socket, there is a blue wire that connects the socket to the lights circuit breaker, make sure there is a good connection, the wire may be broken right at the ring connector at the breaker, or there could be a break in the wire where it branches between the neutral light socket and the oil pressure light socket.

This may be over-simplifying it, but maybe the switch just needs to be cleaned? I don't know the softail platform well enough to know if that's an issue, but it is on the touring bikes occasionally. Just turn that switch out of the gear box, spray down with your favorite cleaner, and reinstall.
Not sure if that will do it, but might be worth a try.
You were 100 % right.
The blue wire connector was broken at the socket base.
I used another smaller wire to splice into the blue one and grounded it to the base with a wire/tie/JB weld (temporary until I get another new one).
And, the Neutral light now works........................
Thank you so much to you and to the rest of you wonderful brothers!
