Default Fat boy 17 - oil quantity...?

Found some discrepancies with the oil levels in three holes on 2017 Fatboy FLSTF- 103 over the Internet search. They were all more or less diffrent .Any Advice ,don’t have service manual ,here they go for close to $ 200 .
Owner manuals says Engine - 2 Quart ,Transmission - 28Oz, Primary 34 Oz.
Trying first oil change by self .
Where do you guys in US buy your oils from ,am looking to get Mobil 1 V Twin 20/50 for Engine and primary & Redline 58204 heavy shockproof gear oil for transmission. Tx.

I'd go w/what's listed in Owner's Manual...adjust accordingly...

Don't need a service manual to find out how much oil goes where. Use your owner's manual.

From an engineer standpoint, you are better off with a gear oil like Harley's Formual+ in primary. It's a straight weight non detergent oil designed for a non filter system.

Not trying to make this an oil thread. Just search why detergents are added to oil. Then decide for ones self.

If you travel a lot, after hot, top off the motor dip stick. No problem running it to full as long as it is hot.

Once you get fimilar with it, you will know how much. Amazes me that Harley just does not mark stick, Hot, Cold and add.

I just run 15W-50 Mobile in mine. Formual + in trans and prim. Runs like new at 50K on it

I ran 15W-50 in a new CRV and at 100K, checked valve lash. Looked and measured like new.

Don't sweat the small stuff. On the CRV, I changed it ever year. Quite often had 9-14 K on it.

Sorry...ment 5W-20 Mobile 1 in the CRV. And looked like new ment under the valve cover, was clean. Maybe a tad of amber stain. The timing chain was still dead on the TDC marks. I run 0W-20 in new Subie. 5W30 in truck and Civic (it has 168K on it)

Your owners manual sounds like the one for my 17 Heritage. It is confusing. It actually says initial oil fill 2.0 quarts and then warm it up and fill from there. Mine takes 2 quarts and 20 ounces to bring it just below the full mark, which is where I like to run it so it doesn’t puke. It does take exactly 28 ounces in the trans and about 34 in the primary, which is why I like to use the same product in both. 28 in the trans and the leftover 4 in the primary for a total of 36. The extra 2 ounces in the primary doesn’t hurt anything. It’s just above the bottom of the clutch basket, shifts nice and smooth and no problem finding neutral.
