Need help with charging issue
I have a 2000 Heritage Softail that won't charge the battery. I'm hoping that somebody who experienced the same issue may have a suggestion to fix my no charging issue. OEM regulator died. Back of case was partially melted. Checked the stator and it showed good. Bought and replaced two new regulators and it still wouldn't charge. Checked grounds, wire connections for corrosion or loose connections and the circuit breaker. Battery is only a year old, kept on a trickle charger and shows full charge and easily starts the motor. Took it to my local Harley dealership and they said stator was bad even though when I checked it per manual and sticky it showed good. Told them go ahead and replace, they're the experts, right? They replaced stator and it still wouldn't charge. Then they said my brand new regulator was bad; said the bad stator fried it on drive to dealer. They replaced regulator and still no charge. They then replaced the main circuit breaker, and it still won't charge. I know it's a simple system, but they're stumped and I'm getting frustrated with them just throwing parts at the problem. There's got to be a simple solution for this but my dealer can't seem to locate the problem. Has anybody experienced a similar issue and got it resolved. I would greatly appreciate knowing what others found to be the issue/problem that fixed your charging issue.
PS dealer said once they find the issue they'll put my regulator back on and won't charge me for their new regulator or labor.
