Engine swap question
Question # 1 Will it bolt in? or would we have to get creative?
Question #2 What about running the 103 on a carb? any issues with that?
Thanks, Eastcoast Jim
"Question 1: Will it bolt in? or would we have to get creative?"
First you need to make sure you use a 103" "B" engine, primary, and trans... the touring "A" engine, primary, & trans combo will be much different..
Just looking at the parts list, I suspect it will NOT be a direct bolt-in swap... but how creative you will need to get I cannot guess... they seem to match up a little bit... For example, using a Heritage Classic for comparison; 2006 Heritage has a different frame number than the 2012 Heritage 103" - 2006 frame #47008-00C / 2012 103" frame #47173-11BHP. The seat posts and rear fork (swing arm) have the same part numbers, but with different suffixes- 2006 seat post #48868-00 / 2012 103" seat post 48868-07 & 2006 rear fork #47573-00A / 2012 rear fork #57573-11BHP.... so they have to be very similar, if not the same...
You can go to an online parts site to do some research. Look at the two different years models. Compare your 2006 and the same model 2012+ w/103" engine to check the parts numbers and pictures of them for similarities and/or differences...

With the proper ignition, intake manifold, carb mounting system, fuel delivery system (petcock, filter, etc), and any needed sensors, I don't see any problem. I know that an OEM CV40 carb should handle the horsepower of up to a Stage II 103" engine... IIRC.. they are good to 110ish HP.. I believe them to be a very good, under rated carb....
As a friend you used to say.... you can do just about anything with enough time and enough money... not sure how much of each this swap would actually take.... hopefully someone can chime in with specifics about this swap...
Good luck...!
