Default Pinging heritage

Picked up a 98 Heritage. 12k on her. All stock. The soft lead plugs were drilled out by 1st owner. After a few hundred miles, the ignition module started to melt. Replaced with an Ultima single fire programmable set up. no.53.660 on box. Started and ran fine. when it warmed up it would ping and chatter when u rolled on the throttle.@60 MPH if u need to get into it, it will ping and chatter, Feels a bit sluggish. Been back to shop 4 times, Says he timed it and so on. I took it out and after it warmed up ta da ! Still there. Not going back. He did call tosee how i made out. Said that the intermediate jet probably needed to be changed out to the next size since them pipes were opened up. ( citing less back pressure ). Not droppin another hundred to find out that wasn't it. Anybody ?

You're throwing darts at it and hoping one sticks. There's a method to tuning. Pinging is usually the result of too much timing. That setup # doesn't mean anything to most of us.

There might be something to the jetting.

What do the spark plugs look like? If it's running really lean, and getting hot, it could start pinging from pre-ignition. The fuel will fire before the plug because the chamber temp is hot enough to light it off. Very dangerous condition

two things made mine ping. loose exhaust bolts at the cylinder, and low grade gas. i use premium only, and tightened the exhaust and she runs flawlessly

Have you checked the VOES (vacuum operated electric switch that controls the spark advance)? A bad switch will not allow the correct spark advance and create a vacuum leak. The rubber diaphragm in the switch can dry rot with age. That can cause pinging. I know the switch is designed to fail in the direction of keeping the spark retarded, but it has been known to fail leaving the spark fully advanced-it happened to me.
