Default Clutch cable issue

I have my clutch lever and cable off of my 2002 Deuce, replacing the lever because it fell and broke the perch and lever. I've noticed even after I adjusted the cable out as far as it will go that I don't have any free cable to put it back on. Maybe I didn't do something right when I adjusted it out when I first started but I'm sure it's out as far as it will go but I'm no big mechanical genius. Could someone who's had this issue or know what I could do about this ( short of saying sell it, you don't need it) it's appreciated.

When you say "I adjusted the cable out as far as it will go", are you saying you opened the adjuster all the way? If you did, you need to do the opposite. Collapse the adjuster, which shortens the outer sleeve, giving more cable slack.

Cheers!
