Well I went ahead and picked it up today. Put 80 miles on it before the rain hit here. Let me say that the engine is way more quiet than my Roadstar and the tranny sounds good also. I here a good clunk when I put it in gear but I like that. Here was a quick shot of it. Gotta go back out and admire it now.

You got yourself one beautiful bike, Starbiker99. It took me a couple hundred miles to stop comparing to my Roadliner. After awhile there were so many things that were so different (and better) that it just wasn't any fun any more. You'll love the 6th gear, and the motor sure purrs.

That is a nice Custom Shawn. Good to hear there are no noise concerns from the tranny as I have an 08 Standard on order. The straight cut gears do make a little more noise so I've been told (fourth and second gears I think).

Well it's been 2 days with the new bike and I get more happy by the mile. My Roadstar was a great bike and if I could have swung it I would have kept them both, but boy this softail is smoooooth! The engine is so quiet compared to my RS. My RS did have a quite a bit more power but it was broke in and had many peformance accessories which are not far off for this guy!

ORIGINAL: Crazy Biker

My FXSTC was built in June of 2006 and my transmission is fine. Don't worry about things out of your control, plus all the people that are complaining about the 6 speed are RUB's, and they don't understand that straight cut gears are going to make noise like the M-22 Munice ( Rock Crusher)in the old mussle cars
I think your really thinking of the oldDodge and Plymouth 4 speed's the stuck behind the 440's and Hemi's. That was a true "Rock Crusher" and it made plenty of noise. But it was harder than hell to break, even when you sidestepped the clutch with a Hemi turning up two or three thousand PRM's. That sucker was tough, but it was also hard to shift fast because the gears were so heavy. They used to cut every other tooth out of the syncro's and grind the gear teeth down about 30% to make it easier to shift. Neither of which made it any less noisey.

Don't worry about the tranny it "may" sound a little odd in 5th, something I don't think I ever noticed, till you get used to it. But its a strong gearset and if it reallybothers you, change the oil for something a bit heavier duty like Amsoil, Redline Shock Proof, or Mobil 1 75/90. Nothing likegood oil to make things right with the world.
