Got a question..I removed the stock Softtail seat from my
07 Softtail Custom and added the Solo seat. And when I did
I peeled off the clear wide stick on tape under the buddy pad.
Now I've bought a new Badlander seat and I'm wondering
when someone sits there if the pressure will scuff up the paint job
if I ever go back to solo again ???
Do I need to put something between the seat and paintjob ???
I peeled mine off of my fatboy too. It looked like shiat with the passenger seat off. I also now have a badlander that I use when the wife is riding. I dont think that it would scratch up the fender, but just for my own peace of mind I take a small microfiber buffing towel and place under the passenger section of the seat (badlander) when it is on the bike. I have a vivid black fatboy that seems like it gets small scratches here and therefrom just the wind blowing on it!! I wax it often to keep them in check.
I took mine off yaers ago and yes it did leave small scuff mark and scratches from the p-pad. I never was that worried about it but that's just me. I use it so I expect it to get some dings and such. I recently had the bike painted but havn't put the p-pad on yet. The micro fiber towel might not be such a bad idea.
I took mine off for the same reason you did-it looked like ----.
Then I thought, gee, if I put the pillion back on it will scuff the fender so I bought another along with a fender bib to cover it when going solo. When I put the passenger seat on I take the bib off. Works slick.
Maybe you can make it out in my sig.

Great idea ...didn't think of that..............Thanks
I recall reading on here before that a couple of layers of blue painters tape on the fender when you use the passenger pillion will keep the scuffs and scratches off the fenders. You should be able to completely hide the painters tape under the pad. When done, just remove it and trash it.A roll of 2 in. wide tape should go a long way.
I am not sure where she got it but my wife had a static cling cutting mat that she used to use in the kitchen in place of a big clunky cutting board. I say she used to have because it is now cut in the shape of my passenger pillion and in the garage. Works perfect. I think she may have gotten it at a specailty kitchen store. I guess she'll have to get another one.
